Course description
Sometimes your voice performance is “Ok”, other times is simply “A magical experience!” You experienced voicing in a state of effortless attention and overall relaxation of the body, but in spite of that, your performance was excellent and you enjoyed it very much. So did the audience. Why?
According to the voice scientist Jo Estill the training in metaphysics of performance, also called Magic, “is comparable to the champion athlete’s mental exercises before he competes, before he enters the zone. Here, the athlete precedes the physiological action by a period of concentration and meditation and the subsequent performance goes beyond the expression of the ego. The spirit is allowed to speak, resulting in a champion or magical experience”. (Estill and Fugimura 1999)
COURSE OBJECTIVES
This course is a full introduction to the mental process required to get in the Zone while singing. The Zone is a distinctive state of mind in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity (named “Flow” by the psychologist Mihály Csíkszentmihályi). For further information, “Metaphysics of Singing. Proposal for an inner journey to our spiritual ground through singing”, by Rossana Baroncelli, published in The Voice and Speech Review (VSR), an academic journal for the National Association of Voice and Speech Teachers (VASTA) in the United States.
The workshop offers the participants the bases of Mindfulness meditation to start understanding their different mind states and their level of stress. In fact, high level of stress caused by performance training can hinder some students, while others thrive and turn the stressful situation into brilliant achievements. Those students are likely to experience performance magic.
The students will learn how to set their awareness to the internal experiences occurring in the present moment, in an accepting and non-judgmental way.
